Fabulous Forties: Joseph Rubin and His Orchestra

Flashback to the Fabulous Forties with Joseph Rubin and His Orchestra and vocalist Jay Spencer! Hear your favorite 1940s hits “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,” and “I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts,” along with a Cavalcade of Bands tribute to 26 of the greatest big bands including Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Duke Ellington, and Artie Shaw.

For the first time on the Palace stage since 1949, the concert will feature the original arrangements of Freddy Martin and His Orchestra. Freddy Martin was renowned for his smooth tenor saxophone playing and his swinging arrangements of classics like Flight of the Bumblebee (“Bumble Boogie”), Grieg’s Piano Concerto, Liszt’s Second Hungarian Rhapsody and, of course his theme Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concert in B-Flat re-titled “Tonight We Love.”

An Ohio native, Freddy Martin was raised in a Springfield orphanage and returned to his birthplace of Cleveland for high school. Guy Lombardo mentored Martin, setting him on the path to musical success. Martin had a 50-year career including a twenty-five year engagement at the Cocoanut Grove in Los Angeles. Among those who got their start with Martin’s band were Tommy Dorsey, Russ Morgan and vocalist Merv Griffin.

Don’t miss this musical excursion through the decade when swing was king!

Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”

Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft. This show is a perfect opportunity to showcase a strong, iconic female performer, as well as unique special effects and illusions.

In My Life – A Musical Theatre Tribute to the Beatles

In My Life – A Musical Theatre Tribute to the Beatles is the Award-winning musical biography of the Beatles through the eyes of manager Brian Epstein, featuring the live music of renowned tribute band, Beatles For Sale. The show is widely considered by industry insiders to be the most unique Beatles show in decades.

More than just a Beatles tribute concert, In My Life gives the audience a chance to “be there” at pivotal moments in the extraordinary career of the Beatles – from Liverpool’s legendary Cavern Club, to the Ed Sullivan Show, Shea Stadium’s 50,000 + screaming fans and their final live performance on the rooftop of their Apple Corp offices. With manager Brian Epstein serving as Narrator, In My Life allows the audience to get a glimpse inside the world of the Beatles from their point of view, as well as hear some of the greatest songs ever written.

“The show delivers!” said the L.A. Times. “If you see one tribute show, see this one – smart and loads of fun,” said the O.C. Register. “This is the ticket for you,” said the Idaho Statesman. “The most original of all the shows on the Beatles,” said the San Diego Theatre Review.  The Beatles For Sale band recently concluded a three month residency at the Harrah’s Reno showroom.  The band also headlines Harrah’s Tahoe, Harrah’s Rincon, Pala Casino and several House of Blues. The band members are age appropriate for the Beatles (19 – 30 years of age).
