Gospel Music Live started 50 years ago with a “Fall Festival Gospel Sing” featuring the LeFevre’s from Atlanta, Georgia, the Rhythm Masters Quartet from Cincinnati, Ohio, JD Sumner & the Stamps Quartet from Nashville, Tn., and the Evangelaire’s Quartet from Akron, Ohio, plus Pat Brown on the organ. James Lawson, promoter states, “My cousin, Larry Arnold sang beautifully His Eye Is on the Sparrow to open the evening event. Later, he was offered a singing position with Eva Mae, Rex Nelon and all the LeFevre’s.” Tickets were $3.00 for adults and $1.50 for Children 13 years and younger.
Mr. Lawson was also, the first promoter in the Northeast Ohio area, to start Christian Dinner concerts at the Kaufman Center, Hartville, Ohio. Over the past five decades James has had the opportunity of working with about every major gospel group including many gospel music legends. “Although our concerts focused in Canton, Ohio, my journey has taken me to other cities including Butler, Pittsburgh, Altoona, and Sommerset, Pennsylvania, Elmira, N.Y., Wheeling, Parkersburg, and Charleston, West Virginia, Dayton, New Philadelphia, Barberton, Wadsworth, Akron, and Wooster, Ohio.” James recalls, “it was Hovie Lister of the Statesmen, that suggested I find a bigger venue which precipitated the move to the Canton Palace Theatre.”
Gospel Music Live’s special “50th Anniversary” concert featuring the Collingsworth Family will take place in the hall of fame city (Canton) at the historic Canton Palace Theatre like you have never heard them before. Canton’s crown jewel, the Palace is one of the few remaining atmospheric theatres; it is just like being in a Spanish courtyard on a mid-summer starry night with wisps of clouds, creating a dream effect.
Although the night will feature gospel music’s Favorite Mixed Group-the Collingsworth Family, it is worth the price of your ticket just to hear Musician of the Year-Kim Collingsworth as she plays the grand piano. Other surprises will make this night one to remember. A special “Meet & Greet” will take place in the upper Lobby starting at 6PM for those with a VIP ticket. Doors will open at 6:30PM for all other ticket holders. It all gets underway at 7PM, Friday, April 28, 2023.
Tickets will officially go on sale to the public on December 1, 2022 at 10:00am (Eastern Time). Tickets can be purchased online at www.GMLconcerts.org or by calling toll free 800-965-9324.
