An Ohio native, Freddy Martin was raised in a Springfield orphanage and returned to his birthplace of Cleveland for high school. Guy Lombardo mentored Martin, setting him on the path to musical success. Martin had a 50-year career including a twenty-five year engagement at the Cocoanut Grove in Los Angeles. Mary Poppins The Broadway Musical, live on the Canton Palace Theatre stage, presented by Stark County Catholic Schools and starring students from Central Catholic High School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”

Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft. This show is a perfect opportunity to showcase a strong, iconic female performer, as well as unique special effects and illusions.

CANCELLED: Lip Sync Showdown: Leadership Stark County Edition

As of March 16, 2020 we are working to decide if and when the event will occur. Thank you.

The Canton Palace Theatre presents it’s third annual Lip Sync Showdown, featuring contestants from Leadership Stark County! Watch as leaders from Stark County compete in this FUNdraiser, performing songs from a variety of styles and genres. The winner will be chosen through monetary “votes” for the contestants, which means the audience chooses the winner. Join us for a fun evening at the Palace!

2020 Participants
26 BCED
Seven classes have graduated since this vivacious group of women met at Leadership orientation and now seven years later, they still remain close friends! These ladies of the 26th Class pride themselves on being the most fun, the most closely connected after graduating, and are unapologetic about being the oldest members of their class. They are Cathy Wyatt, Kathy Feichter, Lucia Pileggi, Margaret DeLillo-Storey, Kimberly Bricker, and Teresa Fedorchak. The combined age of these lip-syncing divas is 346!

A diverse group, they are business owners, health and education administrators, a counselor and a banker, but the one thing they share is the common bond they’ve formed over the years, along with a fondness of delicious food and lively conversation. They see this not only as an opportunity to help support a local treasure in the Palace Theatre, but also as an irresistible reason to hop on stage and unleash some middle-aged attitude! The group’s motto is “Our age is merely the number of years the world has been enjoying us!!”

The Leadership Bellas
The Leadership Bellas are so excited to support the Palace with our singing and dancing talent!  Here is our group and why we joined the Bellas –

Leisyl Boone (Interior designer and Stitch Fix stylist) – I secretly want to be a Diva.
Michelle Cordova (Stark County Chief Prosecuting Attorney) – It will improve my singing skills.
Brook Harless (Plain Township Trustee and retired army) – To embarrass my kids!
Pam Lung (CFO at Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health) – I left public accounting to become a Star.
Patience Moody-Rush (Coordinator of Data Compliance at the ESC of NE Ohio/Connect Info Tech Center) – I’m tired of following the rules.

#31 is the only one!

Proud 28
“Proud 28” are members of the 28th Class of Leadership Stark County (The Great 28).  They have many years of finance, coaching, leadership, engagement, resource programming, job training, marketing, branding, grant-writing, speaking, facilitating, and board experience.

“Proud 28” lives in Canton and Massillon.  They have a combined total of 14 children and are grateful for their husbands: Corey, Dan, Emmett, and Kevin.  They are all fun-loving, full of energy, and excited to be a part of this fundraiser competition to raise money for the Palace.
