The Canton Palace Theatre was scheduled for demolition in 1976, but a public protest led the Canton Preservation Society to buy the atmospheric theater and its contents for just $60,000. In The Palace: Canton’s Wonder Theatre (69 pages, softcover), the Canton Palace Theatre Association tells the story of construction, the Kilgen organ, and the ongoing restoration and its costs of the theater listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The book contains photos of architectural details and a gorgeous full-color pull-out centerfold that shows the interior — from the back on one side; from the stage on the other.
Among those credited for the book’s production are George Downs, John Werren and Richard Haldi.
